This is a series of short films on the theme of regional revitalization, featuring local products, tourist destinations, and other regional attractions.

We will be screening a double feature of “Whale Island Tokunoshima” and “Tokunoshima, the Island of Bull-Sumo” which showcase the charms of Tokunoshima, Kagoshima Prefecture, a place overflowing with nature and kindness and the hometown of Mitsuyasu Shigeta, founder of the Los Angeles Shin-Sen-Gumi Restaurant Group.

Experience the charms of Tokunoshima, a small island with a population of about 20,000 that does not appear on world maps and has been selected as a World Natural Heritage Site.

Experience the beauty and culture of Tokunoshima, an island in Kagoshima Prefecture, in the regional revitalization film “Whale Island Tokunoshima,” directed by Takafumi Ohashi. Produced independently by Shin-Sen-Gumi, this short film features stunning sights of the island’s natural beauty, including whales, as well as sceneries and gourmet food unique to Tokunoshima. To add to the charm, the founder of Shin-Sen-Gumi Restaurant Group, Mitsuyasu Shigeta, hailing from Tokunoshima, adds to the film’s allure by passionately singing the theme song “Shima no Hitoyo”. Be swept away by the captivating tale of “Tokunoshima, the Island of Bull-Sumo,” the second regional revitalization film of Tokunoshima, directed by Takafumi Ohashi. This short film is based on the true story of the founder of Shin-Sen-Gumi Restaurant Group, Mitsuyasu Shigeta, and his older brother. The story follows the journey of a young boy who dreams of making his bull a yokozuna. Along the way, he experiences both partings and encounters and grows in his love for bull-sumo. The film even features Kyokucho himself in the role of his own father. Don’t miss out on this heartfelt film that showcases the beauty of Tokunoshima and the power of determination and love for one’s passion. Runtime 40 Minutes.

Parking: The Ovation Hollywood parking structure is located underground below the complex. Please enter from Highland Ave., next to Loews Hollywood Hotel.
With validation, it is $3 for the first 2 hours and is $2 for every 20 minutes thereafter, with a daily maximum charge of $20.
Parking validation can be received at Level 5 where the screening is conducted.

Access: Take the elevator to Level 5 and walk across the bridge, passing the Loews Hollywood Hotel pool on the left, towards the Level 5 JAPAN HOUSE entrance. Turn left at the end of the corridor. Please be aware that elevator access may be limited. To avoid any delays, we recommend arriving a bit early before the screening time to accommodate potential congestion.
